What is Scoopl?

Scoopl is where you recommend and discover the places you love and the people you trust! Local businesses have long built their reputations through local social relationships - simply put, word-of-mouth. On Scoopl, recommend your favourite businesses and discover the businesses your friends, family, and neighbours recommend. Scoopl adds up all of these individual recommendations and lets communities discover their most reputable businesses quickly.

Is Scoopl free? (yes!)

Do your friends ask you to pay for their recommendation? Nope (I hope)! Scoopl is free too!

Why would I use Scoopl?

Because when you're looking to try a business - you don't want to call everyone in the yellow phone book blindly. You want to know what the people you trust and your community recommends and hear their experiences (good and bad). On the reverse, you want to be able to remember that awesome plumber, roofer, restaurant you tried and want your friends and family to have the same positive experience - so go ahead and recommend them in Scoopl and we'll make sure they get their names.

Who should use Scoopl?

Everyone who's ever used a local business, service or place with a physical presence! (Yeah, so.... anyone who's been in Ontario, Canada!)

Recommendations

What is a recommendation?

A recommendation on Scoopl is identical to a real-world recommendation. It's the stamp of approval you'd give someone or something.

Why should I recommend?

Scoopl keeps track of your recommendations and provides them to your friends and community when they're in need of one! Businesses you recommend will eventually be able to provide your friends with exclusive offers (exclusive because they"re your friends)! Don't worry, it isn't spam (we have a strict policy on spam - read it here). The offers will only be visible if they go to the business" listing on Scoopl.

How do I make recommendations?

What is an experience?

It's a quick recap of your latest experience with a local business, service or place.

Why should I write and experience?

Because the best reviews are experiential - so why not just share experiences? Offer insights, unique qualities, and interactions you had in your experience.

What or who can I write an experience for?

Any local business, service or place with a physical presence.

What are "Thanks"?

Registered users can provide thanks to other users' experiences. Our most engaged users are the users with the most received thanks.

Bookmarks to Try Later

What does "bookmark to try later" do?

On Scoopl, you'll run across businesses you"ll want to try - on a friend's profile, through the city's activity feed, etc. By hitting bookmark to try later, it creates a quick list on your profile for you to refer to later on.

Fans

What is a fan?

A fan is a registered user who is following your activity on Scoopl. They are either a friend or someone who respects your opinion on local businesses, services or places.

How do I become a fan?

You become a fan by going to a user's profile and hiting the follow button. You'll instantly start seeing their recommendations, bookmarks, experiences etc. in your main activity feed.

Can I automatically be fans of my Facebook friends?

Search

What can I search for? (i.e. What can I put in the What field?)

Any local business, service or place with a physical presence.

We currently only service Ontario, Canada. You can search within cities, or within a radius of your address or postal code.

How do I add a photo?

Go to the listing of the business you would like to upload a photo of. Hit the "Add Photos" button on the list. Upload the image - PNG, GIF, or JPG up to 800K.

What kind of photos should I add?

Photos of the products, interior, quality, exterior etc. File formats PNG, GIF, or JPG.

As a registered user, you're able to send direct messages to other users.
